The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) is investigating following a fight that broke out at a high school basketball game in Mercer County Tuesday evening.
A video that has made its rounds on X, formerly known as Twitter, shows a fight that broke out at the end of Tuesday evening's basketball game between Farrell and Hickory High School in the Farrell High School gymnasium.
PIAA District 10, which covers Mercer County, released a statement on its X account Wednesday morning acknowledging the fight and stating that it is evaluating the situation. The full statement can be read below.
"We are aware of the events that occurred during last evening's game between Farrell and Hickory. While we are evaluating the situation, it is disappointing to see violence break out during a high school sporting event. Sports are meant to be a platform for teamwork, discipline, and respect."
"No matter how intense the competition gets, there's absolutely no room for violence. Players should be able to compete fiercely but always with respect for one another and the game."
"Everyone involved—players, coaches, and fans—have a responsibility to keep the focus on sportsmanship, not aggression. Let's keep it about the game."
Farrell Athletic Director Anthony Pegues says no one was injured in the fight and the investigation is ongoing. We're working to learn if any disciplinary action has been or will be taken.
