A group of residents living in a neighborhood to the north of East Market Street in Howland are taking legal action against their southerly neighbors, and the tenants they lease to.

Howland Pet Resort and its lessee Canine Campus Bed & Biscuit Inn were named in a lawsuit filed by Attorney Thomas Nader, and on behalf of five residents living in a neighborhood to the north of the business.

The MLO Bros podcast emailed 21 News photos of the lawsuit that was filed back in November 2024.

Earlier this week, owner of Canine Campus Katie Costello announced it's boarding program will close at that location on March 31st.

In addition the post, she acknowledged the battle with neighbors since they moved in. The post also states an investigation done a few years back determined they were within the rules of the ordinance.

Howland Township Administrator James Pantalone confirmed with 21 News the business is not in violation of any ordinance.

In the suit, residents allege that dog barking and howling during all hours of the da  have disrupted their lives, and that the defendants intentionally allow this to happen.

The eight page suit also claims that the owner and tenant were provided with actionable solutions to remedy the situation.

The plaintiffs are asking for money in excess of $25,000 to compensate for the loss of use of their properties, annoyance, anguish and physical discomfort. As well as prohibiting any dog from occupying the exterior area of the property.

The owner of the Bed & Biscuit Inn was away on a family emergency and could not comment at this time of this writing.

21 News made attempts to contact each resident at their home, four of them were not available, and another declined to comment. 21 News also reached out to attorney's for both parties but have not heard back as of this writing.
