According to an announcement found on the Village of East Palestine Ohio website, Norfolk Southern is conducting site restoration and stormwater management work south of the railroad tracks near the Leake Oil property.

The announcement states that soil excavation is underway to construct a stormwater pond.

Residents are notified that they may see an increase in truck traffic and a visible soil stockpile within the Village.

According to the release, approximately 350 truckloads of soil are expected to be moved during this project.

The announcement estimates that residents could see around 30 truckloads of soil per day, typically consisting of 10 trucks making multiple trips.

The announcement also aimed to make residents aware that the soil is being removed for construction purposes only and is not contaminated.

This soil is also noted as unrelated to any previous environmental testing or remediation efforts according to the release.

The excavated soil will be temporarily stockpiled within the C.I.D. Tank Farm containment area.
