Newton Falls School District announces staffing cuts following 2024-25 school year

The Newton Falls Exempted Village School District will be making some staff cuts at the end of the 2024-25 school year.
According to a press release, the cuts come after a thorough review of staffing, program offerings and student needs across the district. These cuts will not impact the district's instructional offerings.
Positions that will be cut include:
- A high school nurse (through retirement)
- A high school math teacher (through retirement)
- A two-hour custodian at the high school
- A three-hour mechanic at the high school
- An elementary school secretary
- A high school guidance secretary
No additional cuts are planned at this time.
Newton Falls Superintendent Andreas Johansson said in the release that these decisions were not made lightly and are the result of a careful strategic process to ensure long-term sustainability while preserving core instructional programs.
"Our priority remains delivering high-quality education for all students. While changes like this are difficult, they are sometimes necessary to realign our operations with available resources and evolving district needs," Johansson said.
These affected employees may have options under their collective bargaining agreements including recall rights or reassignment opportunities. The district is working closely with union representatives to support affected staff members throughout the transition.
