Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) continues on its campaign to get as many Pennsylvania residents to switch over to REAL IDs by May 7, when they will be mandatory for domestic flights and to gain entry to government buildings.
PennDOT claims that almost 30,000 people in the state have gotten their REAL ID from these REAL ID days.
"PennDOT is dedicated to making the REAL ID process as convenient as possible for those who choose to get one," said PennDOT Deputy Secretary for Driver and Vehicle Services Kara Templeton.
Those who wish to participate in a REAL ID day will need proof of identity, proof of Social Security number, two physical proofs of current address and proof of all legal name changes.
REAL IDs cost $30 plus the $39.50 renewal fee, which will be paid four years after the expiration date on your non-REAL ID. Customers can also pay $42.50 as the renewal fee if they opt for a new photo ID.
After presenting the required documentation and paying the one-time fee, customers will either receive their REAL IDs over the counter or in the mail within 15 days.
While REAL ID days are normally held on Mondays when the license center is otherwise closed, you can conduct other license-related business on these days too.
"With demand increasing, our REAL ID Days are another way we're meeting the needs of Pennsylvanians and delivering the best possible customer service to them," said Templeton.
Both the New Castle and Mercer County License Centers will be holding a REAL ID day on Monday, April 28, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.
