The Ohio Department of Transportation is launching a multi-million dollar reconstruction project along U.S. Route 224.
The project will span from Market Street to the interstate 680.
ODOT spokesperson Justin Chesnic, told 21 News that the goal is to make the corridor safer.
According to studies conducted by ODOT, there have been 1,900 car accidents along that route in the past five years. Chesnic believes the new roadwork will help reduce the number of accidents.
"We're going to be trying to eliminate some of those left hand turns, if we can. We're going to be widening portions and adding turn lanes that'll help with traffic capacity and flowing," Chesnic said. "We're going to be putting some medians in and some curbs in as well, and eliminating some driveways and a couple traffic signals."
ODOT plans for construction to begin during the summer of 2026. They hope to have the project completed sometime in 2027.
During construction, lane closures and traffic detours will be in place.
The department is currently in the design phase of the project.
