The Beeghly Center at Youngstown State University will remain closed at least until Saturday morning following an accident involving pool chemicals.
A Penguin Alert was sent out just before 9:30 a.m. Friday stating that the Beeghly Center, which houses YSU's gymnasium, has been evacuated with folks being asked to avoid the area until further notice.
Another alert sent out just before 4 p.m. says the center will remain closed overnight and is expected to reopen for normal use Saturday, April 26.
The Youngstown Fire Department, as well as HAZMAT crews were on scene.
A representative from the university told 21 News the HAZMAT situation stemmed from an accident involving pool chemicals.
There are no reported injuries, but crews on scene say a contractor working on the pool was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The contractor is expected to be ok.
