PennDOT holding 'REAL ID Day' Monday in Mercer County

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) continues its campaign to get as many Pennsylvania residents as possible to switch over to REAL IDs by May 7, when they will be mandatory for domestic flights and to gain entry to government buildings.

New Castle and Mercer County License Centers will hold a REAL ID day on Monday, April 28, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.

Aimee Inama, the Press Officer for PennDOT Driver and Vehicle Services said 21,106 people in Mercer County have already received their Real ID.

"PennDOT is dedicated to making the REAL ID process as convenient as possible for those who choose to get one," said PennDOT Deputy Secretary for Driver and Vehicle Services Kara Templeton. 

Those who wish to participate in a REAL ID day will need proof of identity, proof of Social Security number, two physical proofs of current address, and proof of all legal name changes. Proof of identity can be a certified birth certificate or valid passport, proof of social security can be either your card or a W-2, two proofs of address can be a utility bill. 

REAL IDs cost $30 plus the $39.50 renewal fee, which will be paid four years after the expiration date on your non-REAL ID. Customers can also pay $42.50 as the renewal fee if they opt for a new photo ID.

After presenting the required documentation and paying the one-time fee, customers will either receive their REAL IDs over the counter or in the mail within 15 days.

PA licensing centers are usually closed on Monday's but will be open will be open on Monday, May 5 and Monday, May 12 from 8:30a.m. to 4:15p.m. for Real ID services. 

Some Pennsylvania's do have the option to skip the in-person visit altogether and apply online. Residents that have all of their documents on file to get a Real ID without a visit received a letter in the mail. 

"With demand increasing, our REAL ID Days are another way we're meeting the needs of Pennsylvanians and delivering the best possible customer service to them," said Templeton.

Ohio BMV’s will extend their hours Saturday, May 3rd and be open from 8a.m. to 3 p.m. for anyone to get a Real ID.
