A portion of West Federal Street in downtown Youngstown will be closed to eastbound traffic starting Monday, April 28, as crews install new signs on the WesBanco clock tower.
The closure will affect the eastbound lanes and the sidewalk between the Vindicator Square and Hazel Street intersections. This initial closure will be from Monday, April 28, until Friday, May 2. A second closure is scheduled from Monday, May 19, to Friday, May 30.
The closures are necessary to place a crane to install four high-rise wall signs on the building, formerly the Premier Bank tower. WesBanco is replacing the Premier signage following the recent merger of the two banks.
During the road closures, no on-street parking will be permitted in the affected area. Detours will be marked.
WesBanco announced the sign replacement in a media advisory, stating that the project would begin with scaffolding installation on Tuesday, April 22. The removal and replacement of the signs are tentatively scheduled for May 5 through May 10, with traffic and pedestrian control measures in place for safety.
Plans submitted to the city indicate that WesBanco will install two large, illuminated signs on the north and south sides of the tower, along with two smaller signs on the east and west sides and one sign at the entrance.
The iconic downtown building, built in 1919, previously displayed the "Home Savings" name before becoming "Premier" in 2020 after a merger.
