The Mahoning County Sheriff's Office has received over $104,000 in grants to support Mahoning County drug task forces.

The sheriff's office received a total of $104,260.36 from the 2025 Drug Enforcement Grant Program, which targets drug trafficking, pharmaceutical diversion and organized criminal activity associated with drug trade through intelligence gathering, information sharing and multi-agency coordination.

Additionally, grants assist drug overdose victims and their families through education support and treatment.

According to a press release, local grants like this are all part of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine's RecoveryOhio initiative, which aims to increase substance use and mental health awareness, implement age-appropriate prevention education and promote treatment with the goal of recovery.

"It is so important that the state has taken initiative to help local police departments combat the national drug trade problem. Ohio was hit hard by the Opioid crisis and we are still seeing the aftershocks in our communities," said Ohio State Representative Lauren McNally.

The RecoveryOhio program is administered by the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services.
