PennDOT of northwest Pennsylvania has announced that the line-painting operations have started back up for this spring season.

Mercer is one of six counties in the northwest region of Pennsylvania that operate two crews to paint over 8,000 miles of lines on state-owned roadways every year.

The crews are projected to finish the line-painting operations in the next couple of months, as weather permits.

PennDOT has listed a number of guidelines for Pennsylvania motorists to follow when encountering a line-painting operation.

The paint used for the lines takes anywhere from 90 to 120 seconds to dry, but humidity and weather impact the drying of the paint.

With the increase in evening temperatures will come interstate line-painting occurring overnight.

PennDOT reminds motorists that they are responsible for driving within roadway lines and following all warning and advisory signs.
