The Ohio Department of Development has awarded Mahoning County over $109,000 for sober housing options in the area.

This funding is among $1.1 million in grants from the Department of Development's Recovery Housing Program. In total, Mahoning County received $109,678 worth of grant funding.

This funding will be used to assist 121 people in recovery by providing safe and structured sober housing options.

The Recovery Housing Program provides rental subsidies for those in recovery with incomes at or below 50% of the Area Median Income with the goal of providing transitional housing while these folks work to rebuild their lives and establish long-term stability.

Ohio State Representative Lauren McNally is quoted in a press release saying this program is an important step in Ohio's recovery from the Opioid crisis.

"Housing is such an important factor when we are looking at creating stability in someone's life. This program provides that support and stability to those who are truly trying to better themselves," McNally said.

The grants are funded by federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and is administered by Ohio through the Department of Development.
