Newton Falls man sentenced to 4 to 6 years for rape

A Newton Falls man who pled guilty to a rape charge in March has learned his fate.

A bailiff in Judge Ronald Rice's court tells 21 News 76-year-old Thomas Giljahn was handed an indefinite sentence of four to six years in prison for one count of rape.

Once release, Giljahn must register as a tier 3 sex offender every 90 days for the rest of his life.  

An indictment revealed Giljahn's crime happened in the Fall of 2022. While the victim's age was not disclosed, the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office said the victim was an adult male.

The prosecutor's office said Giljahn had forced the victim to have oral sex with him.
