Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in Hamilton County and at state buildings to honor Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy Larry Henderson, who died Friday after being struck by a vehicle.

Flags will be lowered on Sunday until sunset on the day of Henderson's funeral at all public buildings and grounds throughout Hamilton County, the Ohio Statehouse, the Vern Riffe Center, and the Rhodes State Office Tower. Other public buildings and grounds statewide may lower flags at their discretion during the same period.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office announced Henderson's death with "profound sadness." Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey noted Henderson's 33-year career with the agency, which began June 14, 1991.

Henderson served in various specialized units, including as an academy instructor, Dive Team member, HCPA SWAT, FBI Task Force Officer, and with the HCSO Bomb Unit. McGuffey said Henderson became an "excellent trainer" who impacted many officers' lives.

The sheriff's office said Henderson's badge number, 129, will be retired.

The agency thanked law enforcement officers, community members, family, and friends for their support and condolences. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
