The East Palestine City School District has received over $1.3 million in energy efficiency grants from the Ohio Department of Development.
The district received $1,363,533 to upgrade building automation systems and complete LED lighting retrofits at all three school buildings, as well as the Board of Education building.
The project is expected to yield an annual utility savings of 72.5%.
This funding is part of nearly $8.5 million from the Ohio Department of Development's Advanced Energy Fund, which helps businesses, non-profits, municipalities and educational institutions complete projects designed to reduce energy usage and the associated costs.
Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik says the money saved can be used to serve the community.
"These grants are making it possibly for more schools, non-profits and local businesses to commit to their missions and make an even greater impact on the lives of Ohioans," Mihalik said.
This is the third round of grants for the Advanced Energy Fund.
