United Way of Mercer County presents 2025 Community Champion Awards

The United Way of Mercer County presented its 2025 Community Champion Awards in Hermitage Wednesday morning.

This year's recipients included Doug Anderson, Robert Piccirilli and Karen Winner Sed.

Anderson has been a leader in the motor coach industry for several decades and has served as the president of Anderson Coach & Travel for the past 35 years. He's also served as chairman for the American Bus Association, the ABA Foundation and the International Motorcoach Group.

He was the primary student transportation provider for several western Pennsylvania school districts including Reynolds, Greenville and Jamestown in Mercer County.

Anderson has been a supporter of the United Way both personally and through employee campaigns. He's provided monetary donations for initiatives like Mercer County Cares, Stuff the Bus and the Success By Six pre-kindergarten program.

He's also served as a board member for the Northern Mercer County United Way, as well as chairman of the board at St. Paul's Homes, director of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Masonic Lodge - Eureka 290 and a Zem Zem Temple Shriner.

Meanwhile, Sharpsville native Robert Piccirilli started his career in banking after graduating from Youngstown State University. He worked at the former McDowell Bank in Sharon with his career spanning 39 years.

His career ended at PNC Bank in Greenville. He retired in 2018 after serving 35 years as the vice president and branch manager at the Greenville Plaza branch for 35 years.

Additionally, Piccirilli served 35 years as a Sharpsville councilman and is currently seeking re-election for his ninth term. He's also been a member of the Sharpsville Booster Club for 35 years and a member, past president and current treasurer at the Sharpsville Service Club for 40 years.

Piccirilli actively participates in the Holy Name Society's food distribution program's pierogi making team.

He's supported the United Way by serving as a board member, past board chair and on the executive leadership committee of the United Way of Mercer County for 12 years. He also served as a Prince of Peace board member for six years.

Finally, Winner Sed has served as CEO, president and COO of various Winner family companies and has engaged in diverse business ventures like extracting Rare Earth Elements from coal ash, indoor agricultural growing, creative advertising and development and distribution of automotive aftermarket and security processes.

She's served on the board of the Shenango Valley Foundation, the Community Foundation of Western PA and Eastern Ohio, Waterfire Sharon PA, the Hope Center for Arts & Technology, Community Action Partnership of Mercer County and the Sharon Community Development Corporation.

Winner Sed also previously served as director of the Team Pennsylvania Foundation, the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce and Sharon Regional Medical Center.
