Youngstown couple sentenced in child abuse case

A Youngstown couple who were found guilty of multiple charges connected to an instance of child abuse learned their fate on Thursday.

Thirty-six-year-old Maleka Curry was sentenced to two to three years in prison on charges of endangering children and felonious assault, while 43-year-old Christopher Hill was sentenced to six years in prison with his counts being merged to felonious assault.

The charges stem from an incident that took place in May of 2024 when a 13-year-old was entered as a runaway juvenile who was later found in Boardman.

Police said the nurse at the child's school told officers that Curry and Hill had beaten him after he was found with Hill hitting him with an unknown thin object.

The victim told police this was not the first time something like this happened.
