Cause of fire at Boardman storage facility still under investigation

Multiple fire departments battled heavy smoke at a storage unit facility in Boardman. 

Fire crews from Boardman, Austintown, and Green Township were all on scene at Life Storage on Boardman-Canfield Road. 

The Mahoning County HAZMAT team was also at the scene.

The fire started in the back of one of the storage units. Boardman Fire Chief Mark Pitzer tells 21 News 40 units were affected by the fire.

Pitzer tells 21 News the cause of the fire is still under investigation with investigators from the State Fire Marshal's Office coming back to the property Monday.

As for damage estimates, Chief Pitzer tells us that will be hard to determine because a lot of content was being stored at the facility and investigators need to determine what was and wasn't there at the time of the fire.
