Bishop David J. Bonnar of the Diocese of Youngstown will celebrate a Mass at St. Columba Cathedral on Monday evening to offer prayers for newly elected Pope Leo XIV.

The Mass, scheduled for 7 p.m., follows the election of American Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who will take the papal name Leo XIV.

In a statement released earlier, Bishop Bonnar expressed gratitude and hope for the new pontiff's leadership. He noted that the election coincided with Good Shepherd Sunday. "We pledge our prayers and support to our new shepherd," Bonnar said.

Bonnar extended an invitation to the Mass to clergy, religious members, lay faithful, and religious leaders and people of other faiths.

Additionally, the bishop announced an evening prayer service scheduled for Wednesday, May 14, at 4 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna. This service will be held for those who work for the Church, including clergy, religious members, lay faithful, and diocesan and church employees.
