A convicted sex offender who was arrested in Mahoning County after illegally entering the United States after deportation has pled guilty.
According to federal court records, Baudillo Ramos pled guilty to one count of illegal re-entry after deportation on Friday, May 9. Ramos will remain in custody prior to his sentencing date, which has not been set yet.
Ramos was indicted by a federal grand jury in March after an investigation stemming from a tip received by the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office about Ramos's status as a sex offender.
According to a criminal complaint, Ramos had admitted to entering the U.S. in 1990 on a commercial visa. He confessed to molesting a child, for which he served two and a half years in prison before being shipped back to Guatemala.
Ramos further told investigators he had paid smugglers $3,000 to help him return to the U.S. crossing the Rio Grande from Matamoros, Mexico into Texas. He then traveled to Houston and later Youngstown, where he had been living for about two years before his arrest.
