Five students within Mahoning County Career Technical Center (MCCTC)'s Computer Networking and Cybersecurity Program have earned industry certifications.
"These certifications are typically pursued by adult learners or professionals already in the IT field," said MCCTC Superintendent John Zehentbauer.
Four of the students earned the CompTIA A+ certification, which is given to those who have proven their ability in troubleshooting issues in cybersecurity, networking, mobile devices and operating systems.
The four students to earn this certification are seniors Henry Grenzig, Ethan Wescovich and juniors Cooper Terziu and Ben Weber.
One student earned the CompTIA ITF+ certification, which is given to someone who shows an advanced understanding of basic IT knowledge. That one student is senior Nick Diaz.
"This is a huge step forward not only for these students, but for our program as a whole," said MCCTC Computer Networking & Cybersecurity Instructor Alex Benson. "They're proving that high school students can meet—and exceed—professional standards in the IT industry."
