The auction of Brookfield’s former George A. Nicholas football field concludes tonight.
The 8.75-acre property, which served as the home field for the Warrior football team for 50 years, includes several small buildings and a press box. The land has no zoning restrictions.
According to Basinger Auction Services, which is conducting the auction, the estimated value of the land is $65,000. As of Monday morning, the highest bid was $57,000.
Paul Basinger of Basinger Auction Services suggested potential uses for the property, stating, "The buyer can rent it out for local tournaments." He also noted the possibility of constructing a baseball field on the site, adding, "There's room to put a baseball field. The gravel in the parking lot would be a good base for a baseball field."
Bids for the land are being accepted online only at BasingerAuctions.com and will close at 6:30 p.m. today, subject to school board approval.
Separately, newer metal bleachers, concession items, and remaining fixtures from the football field are being sold in another auction that closes at 7:00 p.m. today.
The sale of the former football field is contingent upon approval by the Brookfield Board of Education.
