Until Labor Day, September 1, the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry & Labor (YHCIL) will be participating in Blue Star Museums, a national program that provides free admission to attractions for current U.S. military members and their families.

In a form of recognition for U.S. Armed Forces, the YHCIL has opened a temporary WWI and WWII showcase that was originally created by Youngstown State University students which highlights the region's various forms of support during the global conflicts.

Blue Star Museums is a partnership organization between the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families, a group founded by military families, that works with the department of defense and museums across the nation to extend access to military families as thanks for their service to the country.

"Institutions like [YHCIL] offer opportunities for military members to create special memories and connect with our country's heritage and culture," says Mary Anne Carter, senior advisor for the National Endowment for the Arts.

Free admission is available to any current military member and up to five family members with proof of service required in the form of a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), DD Form 1173-1 ID card or the Next Generation Uniformed Services (Real) ID card.

"Museums are more than cultural spaces—they're places where military families feel seen, welcomed and celebrated," says Kathy Roth-Douquet, CEO of Blue Star Families.
