Ohio League of Women Voters announces award recipients
The League of Women Voters of Ohio (LWVO) has just announced the recipients of the 2025 biannual Trailblazer awards.
These awards are designed for individuals who have "gone above and beyond to advance democracy, promote civic engagement and make a lasting difference in their communities," according to to Jen Miller, LWVO Executive Director.
The honorees include:
- Karen Leith of the League of Women Voters of Hudson for the Elizabeth J. Hauser Lifetime Achievement Award
- Andre Green of the League of Women Voters of the Akron Area for the Belle Coit Kelton Rising Star Award
- Freda Levenson – Chief Legal Director, ACLU of Ohio for the Judge Florence E. Allen Outstanding Public Service Award
- The League of Women Voters of Oxford for the Harriet Taylor Upton Voter Outreach Award
- The League of Women Voters of the Greater Dayton Area for the Mary Church Terrell Diversity and Inclusion Award
- The Links, Incorporated – Columbus, Ohio Chapter for the Belle Sherwin Leadership Award
- Honesty for Ohio Education for the Dora Sandoe Bachman Public Education Award
The awards were presented at the 2025 Trailblazer Awards and Gala event on May 17.
"Each honor exemplifies the courage, perseverance, and dedication needed to advance democracy in these challenging times. Their work inspires us all to continue working to make Ohio a better place to live, work and vote," says Miller.
