Investigation underway: Youngstown teen run over, critically injured after fight

A 15-year-old girl suffered critical injuries after being run over by a car early Sunday morning, according to a Youngstown Police Department report.

Police responded to a call about a pedestrian accident on Himrod Avenue around 2:16 a.m.

The victim, whose name was redacted in the report, was found crying and in pain inside a nearby house. She was transported to the hospital for treatment of broken legs, where her mother told officers she would require surgery.

According to the police report, the girl was in the passenger seat of a car with the door open and began fighting with another juvenile female who had walked up to the car. The victim stated that during the fight, the driver put the car in reverse, "floored it," and ran over both of her legs.

The victim was listed in critical but stable condition.

Police are still investigating the incident.
