A Liberty Local Schools employee who is charged after allegedly taking a school-owned computer home with him and accidentally breaking it has resigned.
A representative for the district told 21 News Luke Polito, who was identified in a police report as an intervention assistant with the district, had submitted his resignation from the district April 14.
The Board of Education approved his resignation during Monday night's meeting.
Polito had submitted his resignation just days before he was placed on paid administrative leave by Superintendent Brian Knight in reference to an alleged theft and vandalism incident.
Police say Polito had taken a computer from the school in order to delete his resume and applications to other jobs from it. Police say Polito placed the computer on the roof of his car while he was cleaning it, but the computer fell off the roof and broke.
From there, Poltio allegedly took the computer to a dumpster in Boardman and threw it away, but came back for it the next day after it was already gone according to the report.
Polito is scheduled to appear in Girard Municipal Court for an arraignment on Tuesday, May 27.
