A stove fire quickly escalated on Tuesday evening in Calcutta, with flames rapidly spreading through the kitchen and into the attic of a home before firefighters could bring it under control.

Crews were dispatched at 8:46 p.m. for what was initially reported as a stove fire at a home on Stagecoach Road. When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the home and found that flames had already engulfed the kitchen, pushing upwards into the home's attic space.

Firefighters prevented further damage, launching an attack that quickly knocked down the flames and saved the home. The homeowner was outside the house when emergency personnel arrived.

One Calcutta Fire EMS firefighter sustained a minor cut and received treatment at the scene. No other serious injuries were reported.

The Glenmoor Volunteer Fire Department, Liverpool Township Volunteer Fire Department, and St. Clair Township Police officers assisted the Calcutta Fire Department at the scene.
