Newton Falls is considering implementing speed cameras in the city's school zones.
According to the agenda for Wednesday night's council meeting, Blue Line Solutions, a company that specializes in photo speed enforcement and works with cities like Youngstown and Campbell to implement cameras in their school zones will appear at the meeting for a presentation.
Newton Falls City Manager Mike Novotny tells 21 News this is simply a preliminary presentation and school zone speed cameras are merely up for consideration at the moment.
Novotny says with the police department expected to return with part time officers, the city is looking into options to keep school zones safe at all times.
While Ohio Governor Mike DeWine recently signed a bill banning handheld speed cameras, this legislation was for counties and townships, meaning cities can still use cameras as long as an officer is present and witnesses the violation.
Newton Falls is considered to be a city.
