One person has been charged after a neglected dog was found along S. Albright McKay Road Wednesday evening.
According to the report, an officer was called to help The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project with a dog they found in the area.
Volunteers told the officer that the dog came from the area of Stewart Sharon Road, leading him to check a nearby address.
The report says a 61-year-old man at the home in the 5800 block of Stewart Sharon Road, identified as Ronald Walton, confirmed that the dog found was his and said it escaped out of a pen behind the house.
The officer went to the pen and found a small area with no food or water bowls.
The officer told Walton that his dog was in poor condition, something the owner objected to. He claimed that the dog scratches herself and said he hadn't taken it to the vet for the condition.
According to the report, the officer saw cats inside the home and could smell feces and ammonia. Because of the dog's condition, the officer said that it would receive treatment at The Health Hearts and Paws Project.
Walton agreed to surrender the dog and was taken to the police department.
The report says a summons for cruelty to animals was issued. Court records show Walton is charged with one count of prohibitions concerning companion animals. He's set to appear in court Tuesday, May 27.
