A Valley sergeant was among those honored at a wreath laying ceremony in the Ohio Statehouse to remember America's lost heroes.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel made remarks during the event.

Fowler Township Fiscal Officer Cathy Carr's family was one of the families recognized.

Her son, Sergeant Robert Carr, was killed by an enemy explosive device while on patrol in Baghdad in 2007.

"The pain that all family members carry is one of the main reasons we must never forget," Governor Mike DeWine said. "We must never forget your son, your daughter's sacrifice and we must never forget the true meaning of Memorial Day."

After Carr's death, he was awarded a Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart and the Combat Action Badge.

Carr was 22 years old.
