The Pennsylvania Department of Enviromental Protection (DEP) has awarded more than $1.1 million in Enviromental Education grants to support environmental stewardship across the commonwealth. Among the recipients are two organizations in Lawrence County.
Ellwood City Area School District has been awarded $29,250 for its project Sustainable Solutions at Ellwood City Area School District.
The funding will support the launch of a comprehensive aquaponics program designed to promote environmental literacy and stewardship among students.
The Lawerence County Conservation District received $4,905 for its project Nature Camps for Lawerence County.
The initiative will host two age-appropriate camps that explore the connection between climate change and water quality, aiming to educate and engage local youth through hands-on environmental experiences.
According to DEP, this year's grant program prioritizes education initiatives in communities most affected by climate change and environmental challenges.
