Relocation talks for future of Poland Library continue

In Poland on Thursday, board members of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC) met with the public to discuss the long road ahead.

On Tuesday the board voted to explore the relocation of Poland Library.

"Exploring an alternate location is going to be a significant and long process." PLYMC Director and CEO, Aimee Fifarek said.

Two years ago the board renovated the library. The decision was met with criticism from the building's head architect.

The board said they are not ruling out the option of maintaining or renovating the current deficient building, but it is time to explore something new.

"What we are going to have to do next is review various sites that are available, that could be a plot of land where we could build a new facility, it could be an existing building that could be renovated to be a suitable library." Fifarek said.

The director said a specific relocation site is unknown at this point. However, they do have a temporary site available, if they decide to renovate the current library once again.

"Full disclosure superintendent [Craig] Hockenberry gave us a tour of the Union [...] School in the event that we needed a temporary space, if the direction from the board was to renovate." Fifarek said.
