Despite unseasonably cool temperatures ushering in the Memorial Day weekend, Austintown Township Park's splash pad is scheduled to open today at noon.
The splash pad, open since 2013, is kicking off its season with adjusted operating hours due to rising water rates. Although the splash pad already uses low water pressure, it will be open Thursday through Sunday from noon until 7 p.m., and closed on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Today's opening is being met with a forecast more suited for light jackets than swimsuits. StormTracker 21 predicted Friday would be "not quite as soggy" as previous days but still will feature temperatures around 20 degrees cooler than average, with spotty rain showers.
The cool trend is expected to persist through much of the holiday weekend. Saturday is forecast to see dominating clouds and highs only in the mid-50s, though with only a passing rain shower expected. Sunday and Memorial Day Monday offer a glimmer of hope, with more sun and temperatures nearing the 70-degree mark by Monday. However, showers are likely to return after the holiday.
Austintown Township Park is on Kirk Road between Route 46 and Turner Road.
