Cucumbers potentially contaminated with Salmonella and linked to a multi-state outbreak were sold at Walmart stores in Ohio and Pennsylvania, the retailer announced Thursday. The affected produce is part of a broader recall initiated by Bedner Growers, Inc. of Boynton Beach, Florida.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has linked the recalled cucumbers to a Salmonella outbreak that has sickened 26 people across 15 states, including Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Bedner Growers, Inc. is voluntarily recalling cucumbers sold between April 29, 2025, and May 14, 2025. While the company initially sold these directly to consumers at its three Florida farm markets, a portion of the recalled cucumbers were also distributed to a wholesale buyer. This distributor then supplied retailers, including Walmart locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Symptoms of Salmonella infection can include fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. While healthy individuals often recover, Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. In rare cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream, leading to more severe illnesses.

Consumers who purchased cucumbers from Walmart in Ohio or Pennsylvania between April 29 and May 14, 2025, should discard them immediately. The recalled cucumbers do not have any identifying stickers or labels.

This recall does not affect cucumbers currently for sale at Bedner’s Farm Fresh Markets after May 14, 2025, nor does it include any other agricultural products from Bedner Growers. The company has ceased cucumber production for the season.
