Students from Youngstown's Paul C. Bunn Elementary School placed third in the eighth annual Northern Ohio Rural STEM Collaborative (NORSC) Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) Junior Solar Sprint Cars Competition on May 6.

5th graders Saviel Candalaria, Izick Stamp and Ransome Wallace with teacher advisor Stacie Shepard took home third-place honors at the competition.

These students will compete next at the 2025 National TSA Conference - AEOP JSS National Competition, which will be held in Nashville, Tennessee from June 27 until July 1.

Youngstown City Schools plans on recognizing the students involved in the competition at their May 27 board of education meeting.

Additionally, other Youngstown City Schools placed in this competition, such as Chaney Middle School in Sixth, Harding Elementary School in eighth, Taft Elementary and Rayen Early College both placing 9th.

The AEOP Junior Solar Sprint is a program from the NORSC, a nonprofit organization of five rural school districts featuring Black River, Mapleton, New London, Northwestern and Wellington.
