New chimes ring twice daily at Canfield Fairgrounds' Western Reserve Village

Chimes are now sounding twice a day at the Western Reserve Village Church, adding a new element to the historic Canfield Fairgrounds. The chimes were donated anonymously in memory of a late husband, honoring a shared appreciation for the Village and its local history.

The chimes, installed in the bell tower of the Village Church, will sound daily at noon and 6 p.m., playing for just over a minute each time. The intent is to evoke a sense of community and reflection, like the original bell towers that marked daily life in 19th-century Ohio towns.

Timm Schreiber, Canfield Fair Board Director, said the donation adds a "living, breathing element" to the Village. He noted that hearing the chimes will serve as a daily reminder of generosity and the connections people have to both the Western Reserve Village and the Canfield Fair.

The system was installed to complement the historical integrity of the Village Church while offering a new experience for visitors and fairgoers. Special patriotic tributes are scheduled for Memorial Day, Monday, May 26.

The anonymous donor stated that the gift honors her late husband's memory and their shared experiences walking through the Western Reserve Village. She described the Village as a place they both cherished, and sees the chimes as a way to contribute to something they loved and to maintain his presence in a place she feels is "filled with history and heart."
