A Girard man has been charged on two counts of rape, stemming from an incident that allegedly happened on March 1, 2017.

Liberty Township Police arrested 39-year-old Shane Genetta on May 23 at Liberty Township Park. He appeared via video before Judge Jeffrey Adler in Girard Court Monday for his preliminary hearing on two F1 counts of rape.

Judge Adler set Genetta's bail at $1 million.

According to the court filing, the felony charges show that the first felony charge he is facing is for a child under 13 years old, while the second felony charge is for an alleged force or threat of force.

If convicted, the charges could bring a life sentence because the alleged victim was under 13.

Court records show the allegations date back to 2017, but we still know what led to charges being filed after so many years.

After being contacted by parents saying Genetta had been a coach, 21 News confirmed that Genetta is a children's softball coach, as documents list him as the head coach for a youth girls' softball team in Girard.

The team is part of the Girard Youth Baseball Association, but pictures of the team have been wiped from social media.

21 News reached out to the president of the Association, and the vice president for softball, looking to ask when they became aware of the allegations, as well as what Genetta's current status is, but did not get a response.

Genetta is scheduled to be in court for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday at 9 am.
