Hunters in Northeast Ohio are ranked in the top 10 for spring turkey hunting season this year.

According to the release, Trumbull and Columbiana counties are both in the top 10 for turkeys harvested through May 25.

Trumbull County is currently ranked 8th with 378 turkeys harvested and Columbiana is 10th with 372. Ashtabula County is currently in 1st place with 466 checked birds.

According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), wild turkey hunting season has ended for 83 of Ohio's 88 counties, including Mahoning and Columbiana.

Turkey hunting in Trumbull County, however, continues until June 1, giving hunters time to climb the statewide rankings.

So far, hunters have checked 15,911 turkeys according to ODNR, surpassing last year's total of 15,535. The 2025 number is more than 1,500 turkeys higher than the three year average of 14,361.

Hunting is open from 30 minutes before sunrise until sunset in the northeast zone. You must have a spring turkey permit to take part in the hunt.
