Power restored; Mahoning Avenue open again in Austintown

Traffic is moving again along Mahoning Avenue, and power has been restored to 680 homes and businesses in Austintown after an overnight crash left the area in the dark.

Power went out and the road was closed just east of Racoon Road after an SUV sheared a utility pole near Beverly Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

State Troopers reported the driver fell asleep. The driver was hospitalized, and their condition was not immediately available.

The utility announced on its website that it required additional resources to make repairs along Mahoning Avenue, citing the "complexity of the repairs."
