Youngstown State University's campaign to revamp the Kilcawley Center has received yet another donation.

This donation of $1 million comes from Flor "Shorty" Navarro and is in memory of his wife Elba Navarro.

In recognition of this gift, the outdoor patio will be named the "Shorty and Elba Navarro Outdoor Patio." The patio will be located next to "The Rock" plaza.

Kilcawley Center Chair Scott Schulick says the patio will be yet another place for students to make lifelong memories.

"Whether someone is studying, hanging out with friends or grabbing a quick bite to eat between classes, students will be able to enjoy the outdoor setting located right by the campus core," Schulick said

The Navarros have donated to various project at YSU over the years including the Nunziato Veterans Resource Center, the Navarro Commons in Meshel Hall and the Elba Navarro Youngstown Community Music Project.

Shorty and Elba also have a scholarship named in their honor.

YSU President Bill Johnson thanked the Navarros for their support over the years.

"I have personally known Shorty and Elba for many years. Without question, their dedication to our university and our students is unmatched," Johnson said.
