Hormel Foods Corporation is recalling over 256,000 pounds of canned beef stew nationwide due to potential contamination with wood fragments.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that the recall affects “Dinty Moore BEEF STEW” produced on Feb. 4, 2025. The recalled 20-ounce cans have a “BEST BY FEB 2028” date and a lot code of “T02045,” which may include an additional number at the end. The establishment number “EST 199G” is printed on the can.

Hormel Foods, based in Tucker, Ga., initiated the recall after receiving three consumer complaints reporting pieces of wood in the beef stew. So far, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries or adverse reactions related to consuming the product.

The recall is categorized as a Class I recall, meaning there is a reasonable probability of serious, adverse health consequences or death.

FSIS is urging consumers to check their pantries for the recalled beef stew. If found, the product should not be consumed and should either be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS says it is conducting effectiveness checks to ensure that Hormel Foods is notifying its customers and that the product is no longer available for sale. A retail distribution list will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls when available.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Hormel Foods Corporation at 800-523-4635 or media@hormel.com.
