A Corry, Pennsylvania, woman has been charged with financial exploitation of an older adult and theft after allegedly misusing over $41,000 from her mother's bank account.

Lynn Dewey, 55, was arrested May 20 by Grove City Police following an investigation that began May 2.

According to a criminal complaint, authorities were contacted by Quality Life Services regarding a possible theft of funds from an 80-year-old Grove City woman who reportedly suffers from severe aphasia and is unable to care for herself or make financial decisions.

Dewey, identified as the woman’s daughter and power of attorney, had access to her mother's PNC Bank account.

Quality Life Services administrators informed police that the woman's bank statements from December 2023 to the present showed Dewey allegedly using Cash App to transfer funds from her mother's account to her own and other family members' accounts for personal use.

The facility reported that the mother owed over $16,000 in patient liability, with no payments received since January. Additionally, Medicaid had denied the mother's medical assistance due to her reported income, despite her account allegedly being drained by Dewey.

During a recorded interview, police say Dewey admitted to sending her mother's money via Cash App to herself and relatives for personal use. She also acknowledged using her mother's PNC account to purchase groceries, get gas, pay personal credit card bills, and send money to relatives.

Dewey stated that a $98,652.88 deposit on Aug. 25, 2023, was from the sale of her mother's residence.

The mother also receives a monthly pension of $926.87 from her deceased husband and a $2,139.30 SSI payment.

A review of the mother's bank statements from Aug. 25, 2023, to April 1, 2025, shows the account accrued $165,553.97. Transactions identified as being for the mother's direct benefit totaled $117,122.57. Dewey admitted that $41,671.78 was used for personal expenses.

Dewey faces felony charges of financial exploitation of an older adult or care-dependent person and theft by unlawful taking — movable property.

She was released on $50,000 unsecured bail following a preliminary arraignment on May 20 before Magisterial District Judge Douglas E. Straub.

A preliminary hearing is set for July 9.
