The bridge that carries Blacktown Road (Route 2006) over Interstate 79 in Springfield Township in Mercer County is currently closed for repairs.

A detour is posted using Route 208 and Route 258. It is expected to be in place for approximately five months.

The work will include repairing the concrete deck and placing a new concrete surface. Crews will also repair the concrete beams, piers, and abutments. Additional work includes paving on both sides of the bridge and updating the guardrail.

Built in 1963, the existing pre-stressed box beam bridge is currently classified as being in poor condition. Approximately 550 vehicles use the bridge daily, on average.

MEKIS Construction Corporation of Fenelton, Pa., is the contractor for the project. The contract cost is $1,424,307.77, funded with 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent state funds.

PennDOT urges drivers to slow down when driving in work zones, be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and pay attention to signs and flaggers.
