Road closed due to reported gas leak in Champion Township

Part of a roadway in Champion Township is closed as fire crews investigate a gas leak in the area.

According to a post on the Champion Township Fire Department's Facebook page, Aspen Drive NW is closed between Mahoning Avenue and Hilltop Drive due to an active gas leak.

Champion Township Fire Chief Tom Dempsey tells 21 News the gas leak happened when a crew was working on laying an internet cable and struck a gas line that was not marked.

Chief Dempsey says no one was injured, but Enbridge Gas is currently on scene working to solve the problem. In the meantime, gas has been shut off for about 50 people.
