A Boardman woman faces several charges after an early morning traffic stop that ended with her thanking officers.
Marlene S. Manzano, 66, of Boardman, was cited following a traffic stop on Boardman Poland Road near California Avenue.
According to a police report, an officer spotted a car traveling the wrong direction on Boardman Poland Road around 3:48 a.m. Sunday. The vehicle reportedly turned off the road and over a curb near the Shops at Boardman Park.
After being told to get out of her car, Manzano told the officers she didn't know what happened and declined medical attention. Officers noted her eyes appeared to be glossy and that she had difficulty with questions about the time, day, and date.
Officers say they saw a pill bottle in Manzano's purse and a glass pipe inside her wallet, which she later said a relative uses for methamphetamine. Manzano eventually admitted to recently using methamphetamine once and said her doctor prescribed her anxiety medication, according to the police report.
While at police headquarters, officers say Manzano failed additional field sobriety assessments. She declined to provide a urine sample when asked.
Manzano was cited for operating a vehicle while impaired, refusing to submit to tests after a previous conviction, possessing drug paraphernalia, and failure to control her vehicle. She was released to another person after thanking officers for "saving her life."
Manzano is scheduled to appear for an arraignment Tuesday in Mahoning County Court.
