One person is accused of operating a vehicle under the influence following a rear-end crash with a Hubbard Township police cruiser early Wednesday morning.

Hubbard Township police officer George Stamos called a dispatcher just after 3 a.m. Wednesday, to report that another vehicle ran into the back of his patrol car at Chestnut Ridge Road and Wick Campbell Road.

According to a press release from The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSP), officer Stamos was stopped at the intersection when he was rear-ended by 37-year-old Latoya Gibson of Farrell.

The patrol tells 21 News that the officer was checked out for minor injuries. Meanwhile, Troopers say Gibson was determined to be intoxicated. Drugs and alcohol are suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Gibson was arrested and charged with assured clear distance ahead, as well as OVI.

OSP is reminding drivers that prescription drugs and alcohol do not mix well and do not make for a safe drive and to call for a ride if you are under the influence.
