The case of the suspect in a homicide believed to have stemmed from a love triangle is now in the hands of a grand jury.

According to court records, the case of 33-year-old Daniel Whitley has been bound over to a Columbiana County grand jury following a Thursday afternoon court hearing.

Whitley is charged with one count of murder stemming from the shooting death of James Powell. Investigators believe the shooting to have stemmed from a love triangle involving Whitley, Powell and a woman who both men had been romantically involved with.

The shooting happened near East Liverpool High School around 7 p.m., which prompted an evacuation of the school buildings as a precaution.

Whitley was found and arrested hours later after police found him hiding under the porch of a nearby home.
