Youngstown Police have charged a woman suspected of shooting a woman in the chest on the city’s East Side.

Youngstown police were called to a gas station at McGuffey Road and Albert Street on Thursday, where they found a woman standing in the store smoking a cigarette.

Police say that although the woman had a gunshot wound to the chest, she didn’t appear to be in any “significant pain,” and refused to provide officers with information, including her name.

A witness told police they had brought Moore to the store to get away from the person responsible for the shooting, who was on North Garland Ave. After paramedics took Moore to the hospital, officers headed to the North Garland Avenue address.

On their way, officers spotted a red Toyota Corolla matching the witness's description heading south on North Garland Avenue without its headlights on. Officers pulled the car over.

The driver, identified as 51-year-old Abigail Rivera, was arrested after officers stopped the vehicle with weapons drawn as a precaution. Officers then found a rifle on the passenger side floor of the car.

Police then went back to the 900 block of North Garland Avenue and concluded that the shooting had taken place outside the house. A small handgun with a shell casing jammed in it was found at the corner of Garland and Springdale avenues, along with a spent shell casing.

Rivera was taken to the Youngstown Police Department for questioning by investigators and later booked into the Mahoning County Jail for felonious assault. Moore's current medical condition was not immediately released, but police stated they learned her name several hours later from hospital staff.
