A Columbiana County Jail guard accused of assaulting inmates will stand trial in front of a jury according to the results of a status conference hearing on Tuesday, June 10.
David James Ferguson-Grantz, 26, of Springfield Township, is accused of two counts of assault (M1) related to incidents in 2024.
According to a criminal complaint, Ferguson-Grantz allegedly threw a handcuffed inmate to the floor on September 18 in 2024.
Ferguson-Grantz, according to the complaint, then allegedly grabbed the inmate around the head and hit his head against the wall.
Less than a week later, Ferguson-Grantz allegedly, according to the complaint, pushed another handcuffed inmate up a stairway, and jumped on him, "folding him in half."
Both inmates were hospitalized and the incidents were recorded by the jail's security cameras.
According to court records, Ferguson-Grantz plead "not guilty" in November of 2024.
Ferguson-Grantz is now set to appear for a jury trial on July 2 at 8:30 a.m.
Clint Reynolds, 27, of Lisbon, was booked into the Columbiana County Jail in November of 2024, accused of allegedly shoving an inmate from behind as he was being released from jail on October 3, 2024.
Reynolds, according to court records, was originally charged with assault (M1). However, on January 6, 2025 during a pre-trial hearing, that charge was reduced to disorderly conduct, a minor misdemeanor.
Reynolds, during the January 6 pre-trial hearing, pleaded "no contest" and was found guilty of disorderly conduct. He was not ordered to spend any time in jail, but he was ordered to pay $150.
