Youngstown City Schools approves first phase of district reconfiguration plan

The Youngstown City School District (YCSD) has approved phase one of its district reconfiguration plan during its meeting Tuesday evening.

The first phase of the plan is set to begin in the 2026-27 school year and will include the merging of Chaney and East Middle and High Schools into two campuses.

The schools will also be renamed with the district calling on the community to suggest new names and a mascot for the new schools. A survey is currently online for community members to leave their suggestions. 

Additionally, Youngstown Rayen Early College and is slated to move to the current Chaney High School Building with the Rayen Early College Middle School to follow in the 2027-28 school year for phase two of the project.

Looking ahead, the district will be hosting a town hall at East High School on Wednesday, June 18 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a presentation, as well as the opportunity for members of the community to ask questions.
